Germany pledges $13m grant to rebuild Gaza

Germany has offered to issue a $13 million grant to help reconstruct Palestinian homes destroyed during Israel’s aggression on the Gaza Strip in 2014; the Palestinian Minister of Housing and Public Works, Mufeed Hasayneh, said yesterday.

Hasayneh explained that the grant will be provided through the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Gaza.

The official stressed during his meeting with UNOPS Jerusalem office Director, Tokumitsu Kobayashi, the Palestinian government’s commitment to reconstruct all homes destroyed during the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip four years ago.

During their meeting, Hasayneh and Kobayashi discussed progress in the reconstruction projects and coordination for the introduction of reconstruction materials to the Gaza Strip with the Israeli authorities.

In the summer of 2014, Israel launched a 51-day assault on the besieged Gaza Strip destroying thousands of homes and killing over 2,200 people, including over 500 children.
